The Hunger Crime By John B. Crisci and Trudy E. Bower Attains #1 International Bestselling Status
You are the creator of your own life
John B. Crisci and Trudy E. Bower, authors of The Hunger Crime, have announced that their book has become a #1 international bestseller.

John B Crisci and Trudy E Bower’s book, The Hunger Crime, has become the #1 international bestseller. The Hunger Crime reached #1 international best-selling status in the US, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Germany for a total of 93 best-selling categories, including 17 of them ranking #1.

“In 2011, the idea for The Hunger Crime was conceived while John and I were sitting together at a strategic planning event at our UN humanitarian agency,” says Trudy while discussing the book. “Our motivation was to write a fictional crime thriller set against the backdrop of humanitarian events unfolding in real-time, with the intention of giving something back. We wanted to remember the hunger paradox, that hunger is rising even though the world produces enough food to feed every man, woman, and child, and that a child dies every ten seconds from hunger and hunger-related causes.”

The authors want the readers to become aware of the impact of hunger on families and communities. The book highlights the complexity of humanitarian operations in conflict and disaster-prone countries. Humanitarians are driven by a higher calling and often run up against bad actors who use food as a weapon of war.

The story involves emergency operations unfolding in real time, hostage rescue, and negotiations to create a humanitarian corridor. It also has a nuanced commentary on food as integral to the fight against terrorism and the path toward peace. The authors have cleverly incorporated emerging technologies, such as blockchain and bitcoin, into the storyline, as they are explored in the hands of good and bad actors.

The book took 12 years to be completed and published. It’s a classic example of why people must never abandon their dreams. The authors believe there is always a way for people to create their own life.

“You are your vision, so authenticity and alignment with your message are key to finding resonance with others,” says Trudy about their challenging journey.

John and Trudy together have more than 50 years of experience as senior managers within a UN humanitarian food aid agency whose mission is to provide food assistance to save the lives of victims of war, natural disasters, and pandemics. They played a pivotal role, individually, in rebuilding livelihoods through school meals, maternal child health, agricultural production, irrigation and land reclamation programs, and training.

John worked with the UN for 27 years. He directed food supply chains that helped over 100 million people during this period. He also managed the budget and emergency response units and was the emergency coordinator in the Sierra Leone Ebola response.

Trudy’s overseas career spanned 30 years. She managed several food assistance programs in the field for CARE in India and Bangladesh and for the UN in Mozambique, Burundi, Madagascar, Cote d’Ivoire, and Ghana—the latter two as country director.

The Hunger Crime is an advocacy tool to entertain new readers while raising awareness about hunger and the heroic work of humanitarians. The Hunger Crime advocates for school meal programs that incentivize the poorest parents to send their children, particularly girls, to school.

John and Trudy share a vision about this book: to make it into a beautiful, award-winning movie.

The Hunger Crime is available in e-book, paperback and hardcover on Amazon.com and in bookstores.
