Attesting to the benefits of providing dogs with proper training, Tonya Martin is the owner of the Columbus, GA-based Dog Gone Good Dog Training, who has recently shared the story of how she met and helped Millie, a dog that was frequently in and out of rescue since few families could handle her.

Millie found herself in a bad situation. Millie was a rescue dog looking for a new home. Her past was a mystery and her future was not looking good. The rescue was having a problem finding Millie a new family. She is a mixed breed, average-looking dog. A few families had found her energy endearing and decided to give her a chance but quickly changed their minds and returned her. When faced with stress, Millie would lash out. One time she didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before being returned.

The rescue reached out to Tonya Martin, the owner of Dog Gone Good Dog Training in Columbus, GA as a last option for Millie. Tonya took on the challenge. She took Millie home and started to work with her. Tonya states that rescue dogs often need time to decompress from the shelter life, so Tonya gave her time. After a few days, Millie became less fearful and it was time to slowly start introducing new situations to Millie and teach her the proper way to behave.

After working and living with Tonya for quite some time, Tonya knew Millie was ready to find her forever home. It had to be the right fit. As fate would have it Tonya’s brother-in-law fell in love with Millie. He and his wife took Millie and gave her a home filled with love. Millie didn’t have to worry about the scary world any longer since she had a safe place to call home. Now Tonya gets to see Millie whenever she wants. Millie is always happy to see her old friend and greets her with a wiggly butt and a smile.
