Interested candidates should send their resume to careers@wearesona.com

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 13, 2022 - PRLog -- Advocacy focused non profit, Songwriters of North America (SONA) has retained Sound Circle Management (SCM) for strategic services while conducting a diligent search for its next Executive Director. Interested candidates should send their resume to careers@wearesona.com.

"SONA has been on the front lines of the battle to protect and fairly compensate songwriters and composers since we were formed only seven years ago in 2015. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved in that short time, with many of the original co-founding songwriters and composers remain active as board and committee members; advocating, informing and growing our community," said Michelle Lewis, co-founder, Board chair and acting Executive Director of SONA. "Now it's time for the next chapter in our history. SONA is seeking a professional with experience in nonprofit management, who possesses an understanding of the unique challenges and experiences of today's working songwriters and composers in the digital music ecosystem, knowledge of the legislative process and creative leadership skills for a busy, growing grass-roots membership organization to take us into the next phase of our mission to protect the value of songs and the future of the job of songwriter as our new Executive Director."

Since making national headlines in 2016 when "a bunch of songwriters sued the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice" and won, SONA has been instrumental in ensuring and improving the livelihoods of professional music creators: they helped draft, lobby for and ultimately pass the Music Modernization Act (MMA) in 2018, helped launch the Mechanical Licensing Collective, proscribed by the MMA, lobbied for and successfully got songwriters included in the CARES Act of 2020, enabling songwriters to receive essential Covid pandemic relief, and loudly opposed the appeal of the rate increase they received in the last Copyright Royalty Board rate-setting procedure, which recently resulted in a denial of the appeal and provided songwriters and publishers with a long-awaited and well-deserved raise!

"SONA has proven its commitment to songwriters and composers worldwide again and again" said Kellie Brown, CEO of Sound Circle Management, "and that they have sustained this commitment as a 99% volunteer organization is incredible. We began the SCM and SONA relationship when we were brought on board to fundraise for, organize and execute SONA's first in-person signature awards event, the Warrior Awards. Being asked to step into a larger, more strategic role is exciting and we are thrilled to help continue such amazing work."

Songwriters of North America is an open and diverse community which unites enthusiastic music creators and thoughtful business leaders to redefine the music business in the 21st century.  SONA organizes a unified voice to protect artistic expression, compensation, and the rights of songwriters in North America.  www.wearesona.com
