Corpus Christi Health Insurance Has low Enrollment After Decreased Costs in 2022

In fairness, a recent article by InsuranceNewsnet pointed to the fact that 2.1 million people had already enrolled in the Marketplace plans a few months ago during the special enrollment period approved by President Biden.

Corpus Christi health insurance has come a long way over the past year in terms of offering various subsidies to millions of uninsured or underinsured Americans in hopes of generating more affordable healthcare. Despite that, people aren’t quite flocking to enroll — both locally and on a national scale. According to several reports, the first week of open enrollment on Nov. 1 garnered just 773,557 people for 2022 coverage. But those numbers included 640,283 who were simply re-enrolling in plans from the previous year, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

In fairness, a recent article by InsuranceNewsnet pointed to the fact that 2.1 million people had already enrolled in the Marketplace plans a few months ago during the special enrollment period approved by President Biden. Also, new numbers are only for the 33 states that use Healthcare.gov as a means to sign up for healthcare. This includes health insurance in Corpus Christi. The rest are from states that are counted separately since they use their own healthcare system that isn’t government controlled.

Rick Thornton, a Corpus Christi health insurance agent, echoed the InsuranceNewsnet article by saying that the recent numbers are not something to get too upset about just yet, as the 12 states that have not expanded Medicaid account for a significant percentage of adults and children who were not uninsured through June of this year. About 9.6% of the U.S. was uninsured, including 14% of adults ages 18-64 and 4.4% of children, per a report by the National Center for Health Statistics. Open Enrollment in Marketplace health insurance plans began Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15, 2022. Enrollment must be completed by Dec. 15th to have coverage begin on Jan. 1. Otherwise, the next enrollment period will be Nov. 1st, 2022.
