The medical care industry often has special needs for the selection of floor covering materials. Usually, each hospital will be divided into several different areas according to the needs of different business scenarios. When selecting the floor, you need to consider some factors like which areas of the hospital need to be paved with the floor, what kind of floor is most suitable for the area, product service life, durability, step comfort, aesthetics, point load, rolling load and so on. In addition, the cleaning and maintenance and cost expenditure in the later use of the floor are also the key factors to be considered in the selection of the floor. In order to make the right decision, it is important to take all these issues into account.  Let’s take a look if the SPC floor is suitable for the areas below,

1. Hospital entrance and corridor

The entrance and corridor of the hospital, usually have the most traffic, and the high rolling load should be also considered. So, the flooring products in these areas should be wear-resistant, anti-slip, waterproof, antifouling, and have high durability. Although SPC products (a rigid core vinyl floor) have these good characteristics, they still need to be used cautiously in the face of high traffic scenes. The wear-resistant layer of SPC is a kind of soft PVC material, and its scratch resistance is not enough. It will not be repaired after being scratched by hard objects. At the same time, even if the product comes with a wear-resistant layer with a thickness of more than 0.5mm, the service life of the product will be greatly shortened in the face of huge traffic. Therefore, we do not recommend considering the first choice to use this product.

2. Procedure rooms

For procedure rooms, the current trend is to use PVC or rubber homogeneous floors. The cleanliness and hygiene requirements for the environment should be the primary consideration. Obviously, SPC is not suitable. The laying of SPC requires that contraction joints be left in the surrounding wall corners.  so, there is no way to achieve the same performance as roll type homogeneous floor which is usually be curved surface paved to climb onto the wall. Meanwhile, the joints of the floor may leave slight gaps, which will be conducive to the growth of bacteria and brings difficulties to the cleaning and maintenance in later use.

3. General patient rooms

According to research, the patients like a warmer look and feel during their stay in the hospital. So, the trend of hospital patient room floor is to make the accommodation more like at home, which is said to contribute to the healing process and reduce the stress of patients. Since the patient rooms don’t have the same requirements as other areas of the hospital, SPC can be an excellent product choice. It provides a rich product design and is easy to install and maintain.
