Free Groceries, Vaccines, Health and Dental Screenings Offered at Community Health Event

Media invited to tour Neighborhood Health Center's new mobile medical and dental vans at Community Health Fair

PORTLAND, Ore. - August 4, 2021 - (Newswire.com)

Portland metro area families in need of COVID-19 vaccines, back-to-school immunizations or dental screenings can get all of these services and more at a free Community Health Fair in Hillsboro on Saturday, August 14, 2021.

This free public event is hosted by Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) and held in partnership with Medical Teams International (MTI) in observance of National Health Center Week, an annual celebration aimed at raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America's health centers over the past five decades.

NHC offers medical, dental, family planning/reproductive health, and behavioral health services to at-risk and underserved patients in the Portland metro area.

NHC will be offering blood pressure and glucose screenings, dental screenings, COVID-19 vaccines and school-aged immunizations at this year's event. Attendees can also get help with Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and health insurance enrollment, schedule a physical or well-child exam, and pick up a free box of fresh produce from MilkRun.

MTI will be providing free dental services to attendees with urgent dental needs.

Recognizing that lack of transportation is a barrier to receiving care for many community members, NHC recently acquired a new mobile medical van and mobile dental van to allow the nonprofit to reach these patients where they are. Members of the media are invited to tour these vans at the Community Health Fair.

Mobile medical van will enable NHC to reach more at-risk community members

Maribel Renteria manages NHC's Canby Medical Clinic and has helped lead a number of COVID-19 vaccine outreach efforts to seasonal and migrant workers in the Canby area.

Renteria and her team vaccinated an estimated 220 migrant workers at four separate outreaches since April. She says the new mobile medical van will allow them to reach more migrant workers with more healthcare services -- and extend their outreach to a wider geographic area.
