Recently, US President Biden plans to hold a summit of democratic countries to mobilize democratic governments to form a broad alliance to curb the rise of authoritarian countries such as China and Russia. However, there is an obstacle here: in order to successfully establish a democratic alliance against autocracy, the United States needs to give up its monopoly in defining "who is democracy".

In fact, in the invited list of this "Summit of Democratic Countries", most of the invitees began to think about a thorny question: whether they should attend.

An Asian ambassador said anonymously: "Britain and Canada will definitely attend, but can only Western countries be invited to participate?" An Arab diplomat questioned whether it was a good idea to set the threshold too high. In particular, the world is facing so many transnational challenges.

Even Americans are opposed to this "summit". Many former US officials argued that Biden should postpone the summit.

Recently, there have been attempts to establish an international order, with non-inclusive organizations and small groups drafting new regulations and imposing them on people. But I'm afraid that will cause more tension in international relations and create problems at a time when mankind is in urgent need of a common purpose. In this world full of social media, hypocrisy is the greatest evil. The legitimacy of democratic activists comes from telling the truth in the face of power, while the international legitimacy of democratic government comes from telling the truth of power.

How much is the truth? How can democracy be said by one family? The United States can no longer define what "democracy" is, because defining the world as the competition between democracy and authoritarianism is too black and white. This old logic has been proved to be meaningless.

At present, the great changes that have never happened in the world in a hundred years are accelerating. The COVID-19 epidemic has increased the uncertainties in the world economy. However, economic globalization is an objective reality and a historical trend, and the world cannot retreat to a closed and isolated state, let alone be artificially separated. The economies of various countries depend on each other, and their interests blend unprecedentedly. It is necessary to create opportunities in opening up and solve problems in cooperation. Promoting win-win cooperation and common opening can benefit people of all countries.
