Reporter Lauren Scott recently caught up with The Gore Boyz (TGB) to learn more about this intriguing artist and the inspiration behind what is clearly a captivating new sound.

LAUREN: Let's just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Being At the Tom Joyner Family Reunion and after performing we got to go back stage to hang out and perform for The Jackson5.

LAUREN: Your song 'Spend A Bag' is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): We all just started yelling and screaming in the car then we all started singing our parts. It was pure pandemonium all the way home and we started calling our grandparents and our friends from school telling them to listen and our phones were blowing up because everybody started calling us.

LAUREN: What was the inspiration behind your radio single?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): The song talks about how you have to spend a bag on a girl to impress her. When the production team asked the boys what they were most interested in, the conversation naturally turned to girls. Afterwards, the team carefully crafted a track that is relevant to what is happening today. Like many of their listeners, the brothers are at the age when they would be taking girls out on dates (if not for COVID restrictions). TGB performs music that allows people to have fun, which is what they want their music to be about, while putting out clean, quality music that will stand the test of time.

LAUREN: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the 'catalyst' or 'fuel' for your desire to create music?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Based in Charlotte, this band is composed of the three brothers whose ages range from 15 to 19. They not only play instruments, dance and sing a variety of music that appeals to all ages – they are also academically gifted and active in their community. "The goal of our music is to spread positivity and let others know that you can do anything if you put your mind to it," Herman said.

LAUREN: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): The new generation is already gearing up to replace today's popstars. Part of the new generation is the group, The Gore Boyz (TGB).Groomed in true Motown style since 2009, TGB is a blend of new and old school in the vein of Boyz II Men and The Jackson 5, with a bit of Justin Bieber mixed in. TGB makes R&B music that appeal to Pop audiences of all ages.

LAUREN: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Their latest single "Spend A Bag" has gained 600,000 streams on Spotify and over a Million on YouTube during the month since its release. Produced in Los Angeles by a team headed by Grammy Award winning artist, Theron 'Neff-u' Feemaster ("Men In Black"), the song talks about how you have to spend a bag on a girl to impress her. When the production team asked the boys what they were most interested in, the conversation naturally turned to girls. Afterwards, the team carefully crafted a track that is relevant to what is happening today. Like many of their listeners, the brothers are at the age when they would be taking girls out on dates (if not for COVID restrictions).

LAUREN: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): We do have entertainers in our family Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen

LAUREN: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Not many of today's artists are doing what TGB is doing. These days, nearly everybody wants to be a rapper spitting explicit lyrics, but TGB is making clean, fresh music. "Our pastors listen to it," said Sean Michael. "We have people of all ages listening to it."

LAUREN: Who are your role models in music?

LAUREN: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Sean Michael described his favorite experience. "My favorite experience was when I got to sing on stage with Justin Beiber on his Purpose Tour. I auditioned and was picked over 20,000 people to perform with him on stage ."

LAUREN: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB):

LAUREN: What's next for you as an artist? Is there an album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
THE GORE BOYZ (TGB): Over the summer, Herman, a student at one of the most Prestigious HBCU's Morehouse College, held a fundraiser for professors and staff at Morehouse with the help of his brothers. Their virtual concert event raised $10,000, coinciding with their mask up campaign where they gave out over one thousand coronavirus survival kits for people at high risk. Sean Michael declared "during this COVID time, we want everyone to mask up and get vaccinated, so we can get this thing over with!"
