Ecityworks Survey Finds 55% of People Working Remotely Don't Want to Return to Office
Through the survey, Ecityworks found out the reason for the large disparity within the choices of workers. In particular, Ecityworks has specifically surveyed the group that loves working from home to understand why this number accounts for more than 50%.

According to an Ecityworks survey of more than 3,100 people working remotely with a variety of industries during the pandemic, 55% of them say they would absolutely look for a new job if they weren't allowed to continue working remotely at their current location.

29% is in a neutral position and only 16% say that returning to office is not a big deal for them.

With a more specific survey about the choices in the form of work that they want:

Up to 63% say that they prefer to work remotely after the pandemic, 20% prefer to work combining both remote work with office work. Only 17% say that they want to return to the office.

Through the survey, Ecityworks found out the reason for the large disparity within the choices of workers. In particular, Ecityworks has specifically surveyed the group that loves working from home to understand why this number accounts for more than 50%.

Below is a summary of key findings from a survey of more than 3,165 people working remotely during the pandemic and may still be working remotely now.

Detailed findings can be found in the Ecityworks Remote Work  Rate Survey.

Out of a total of 3,165 people surveyed, 1,994 of those say that they’d like to continue working from home after the pandemic. There are many factors that influence their motivation to work.

Save a lot of costs when working remotely:

36% of remote workers estimate that they can save at least $4,000 a year from remote work (lunch costs, commuting costs, car maintenance costs, laundry costs, etc.).

1 in 3 people save $150 per week on expenses incurred while working in the office.

More than 90% of those who work remotely also say they tend to spend more money when working at an office.

Save time:

More than 95% of people who work from home say they save more than 2 hours a day working from home. They have more time for themselves and their families, while time pressure is reduced and their health and work efficiency are significantly improved.

Work Productivity and concentration:

75% of people who work from home say that they are more focused and work productivity is more effective than working from the office. However, this number dropped to 65% when Ecityworks conducted the second survey 1 month later. This shows that although employees like to work from home, to maintain in a long term businesses need to have reasonable changes and orientations.

Lack of social interaction:

2 out of 3 people surveyed think that working remotely will reduce the connection between colleagues. The rest think it won't make a big difference in their lives.

Solve problems directly:

65% think that there are many problems that they can hardly solve effectively at home, and they need help from remote support tools such as Zoom, Google Meet, Teamviewer...

Competition:

76% of people working remotely think that they lose their motivation to compete when working from home, 20% think that they can self-motivate their work, even increase their motivation. The rest (4%) say they still maintain a stable job.

"In the context of the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, Ecityworks has tried to conduct a number of online surveys to provide the best solutions for the work.” - Kenji Saito, CEO, and Founder of Ecityworks, said.
