Elevations RTC Highlights An Inclusive Campus Life

Elevations RTC, based in Syracuse Utah, is making leaps forward to be one of the most inclusive programs in the United States.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, April 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elevations RTC, a residential treatment center located in Syracuse, Utah, has long focused on improving the lives of all students when they arrive. The treatment center is designed for troubled teens in need of intensive therapy and comprehensive medical care, but one of the other bonuses compared to others has been providing an inclusive, gender-neutral campus. This decision is not lost on many families and students and makes Elevations a bit more unique in an ever-growing crowded field of residential treatment centers.

What does gender-inclusive mean?

To put it as simply as possible, all genders are treated equally and constantly interacting with each other at Elevations RTC. There is hesitation with some residential treatment centers to put genders together, and even parents will have their concerns. However, Elevations RTC stands by a pretty simple and true statement about the world: all genders must coexist.

With a gender-inclusive campus, teenagers do not have the need to run away from any struggles they might face. The focus is on building relationships with others and learning how to live and survive in a world outside of the campus.

Students throughout their time at Elevations RTC begin to understand just what type of impact a campus can make on students. Many graduates have had nothing but positive things to say about creating quality bonds with all types of teenagers from all walks of life.

Supporting students without judgement

All staff on campus are supportive of the names and pronouns that students use. It allows students to feel like they are getting an equal opportunity to be accepted and to be who they are without judgement.

For some students, this is the first time in their life that they truly feel like they have a genuine chance to be heard and explore everything they are passionate about. Being on equal footing from day one, thanks in part to being a gender-neutral campus, allows teenagers to take more chances and enjoy what they enjoy.

How Single Gender Residential Treatment Centers Come Up Short

Teenagers are going through many different changes during this stretch of their life, which already makes it awkward enough. Being separated from other teenagers for an extended amount of time is not going to help create better overall relationships down the road. Many of the skills learned in a residential treatment center can go away once returning home by missing out on that important development feature.

Single-gender residential treatment centers can also reinforce negative stereotypes and unwritten rules for certain genders. Elevations RTC believes in its approach to helping teenagers get back on their feet. A better solution is to mimic the real world as much as possible within the walls of the campus.
