St. Paul, MN – Myriel
Karyn Tomlinson, the celebrated chef who was at the helm of Corner Table in South Minneapolis before its closure in 2019, has found a home of her own – in St. Paul. Tomlinson, the first female winner of the national Cochon 555 competition, has taken over the space that was formerly Bar Brigade on Cleveland Avenue. Her restaurant, Myriel – named after a character from “Les Miserables” – will draw on her European culinary training, but she’s “excited to use Minnesota products.”
Altamont, NY – Curry Patta
The owner is Nadia Conklin, a native of Pakistan whose family moved to the United States when she was 3. During the past two decades working as a regional manager for a multi-office dental practice, she long dreamed of opening a restaurant. The coronavirus pandemic prompted her to pursue it, she said, because she didn’t want to return to traveling among small offices and potentially bringing viral exposure home to her 12- and 13-year-old kids, who are in school remotely, and their 6-month-old sibling.
Hixson, TN – Chipotle Mexican Grill
Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning its second Chattanooga location with a restaurant to open in Hixson. Site work is underway at 5242 Highway 153 on part of a tract that for many years held the Pep Boys auto store, according to a Chattanooga building permit. Chipotle spokesman Tyler Benson said plans are for the Hixson restaurant to open next summer, though he declined further comment.
Powell, OH – Pizza Cottage
What once was a Ruby Tuesday in front of the Home Depot store in Lewis Center has become a Pizza Cottage – the company’s seventh. The new location is expected to open in December at 8753 Owenfield Drive, according to regional manager Chad Dawson. No official opening date has been set yet, he said.
Austin, TX – Nusr-Et
After nearly three years in the works, virally popular steakhouse Nusr-Et is finally preparing for its Dallas debut. A representative from the restaurant was a little cagey on the details, but told Eater that the restaurant is set to open its doors at 1900 Pearl Street by November 16, though the opening could happen a week earlier, on November 9. Job listings posted to Indeed and other hiring websites indicate that Nusr-Et is currently staffing up for its debut, hiring everything from front-of-house staffers to line cooks and a sommelier.
Long Beach, CA – Mendocino Farms
Gourmet sandwich spot Mendocino Farms is heading to Long Beach. The Los Angeles-based chain, which is known for is seasonal menus and staples such as the “Not So Fried,” a shaved, roasted chicken breast sandwich served with chipotle barbecue sauce, a pork belly banh mi and Peruvian steak sandwiches, will open its first Long Beach location at 11 a.m. on Nov. 13.
