The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Anne Canfield as a 2018-2019 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in entrepreneurship. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with nearly one million members, 1000+ in person and virtual events, over 100 Local US based Chapters and International Chapters in several cities in China.

“I’m pleased to welcome Anne into this exceptional group of professional women,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”

Anne Canfield has always loved horses. “I started riding and showing at the age of 10. I lived on a small farm and was taught the need for a strong work ethic when it came to the care of my animals, which at that time included a dog, cat and pony, and achieving goals,” she said. “As I grew up, my parents gave me all the opportunities to achieve those goals. I worked very hard and started showing 4H, which lead to open shows and breed shows.” At the end of her youth career, Ms. Canfield showed at the AQHA Jr. world show and won national titles.

Ms. Canfield went on to major in Equestrian Studies in college. After graduating, she worked as a paralegal and in human resources and continued to be involved with horses. But it wasn’t until she developed 3rd stage breast cancer in 2016 that she decided to make horses her full-time career.

“I have battled cancer for one year and nine months and have been cancer free since June 11, 2018,” she said. “After fighting for my life and now having a second chance, I have given up the corporate world and want to focus full time on horses and health for animals and people."

Ms. Canfield founded The Rusty Spurs to teach others about essential oil treatments and Bemer therapy for people and their pets. “This is not to take the place of doctors, but to help with healing and the mind, body and soul healing,” she said. “Animals and people all have the need to be safe and secure, and with the help of oils and Bemer therapy this can be achieved. When an animal is healthy and not in pain, they take care of people and the two are bonded together forever. I also sell horse products at horse shows along with the oils and do Bemer treatments.”

As sole Owner of The Rusty Spurs in Grand Rapids, MI, Ms. Canfield handles every aspect of the business, from marketing to finance to sales. “I also have a 4H group, am the Assistant Coach of my high school equestrian team, give lessons, and I have two dogs and a horse of my own,” she added. “My skills are my horse knowledge, my personal experience with fighting for my life and learning through my own horses how a bond with any animal can be special and unique.”

Ms. Canfield, who has two bachelor degrees, a paralegal degree and an MBA, said it can be challenging to find the time to help all those people and animals who need it but she is gratified to be able to educate people and help them and animals be healthy and happy. “My future goals are to have a store front and be able to have employees to travel out of state and help even more people and animals,” Ms. Canfield said.
