STEP Board Member Among Greats in San Diego

By: PRLog
SAN DIEGO - Nov. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Terry Magee, Capt., USN (Ret), was named as a finalist for this year’s Will Hays Lifetime Support of Veterans Award as part of the Veteran Museum at Balboa Park’s annual Veteran of the Year Recognition Luncheon held at the San Diego Scottish Rite Center.

Chairman of the Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) board, Ken Garber, Capt., USN (Ret), was proud to nominate Terry for the award based upon Terry’s unwavering support and advocacy of military families’ quality of life in San Diego throughout the past two decades, following retirement from a stellar naval career.

“Terry is such a humble man that puts so many before himself. His dedication is evident in all that he does. He truly is a role model for all in the community,” said Garber.

Terry has served for seven years as a member of the STEP Board of Directors, accruing more than 200 volunteer hours annually in support of the nonprofit. STEP’s mission focuses on helping service members and veterans change their lives by providing counseling, financial education and, when necessary, grants to creditors in order to set them on a path to financial self-sufficiency. Areas of assistance include emergency food, rent & mortgage, utilities, auto repair, critical baby items and other emergency assistance.

Other accomplishments Terry has completed on behalf of San Diego’s military community involve: seven years of affiliation with San Diego Military Advisory Council, including being a board member, President in 2008 and current lead for focus groups on the Military Economic Impact Study and Unmanned Systems; twelve years of service to United Through Reading, including fundraising, community partnerships and board membership; being on the Board of Directors for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association from 2010-2012, guiding the San Diego Chapter in forming a stronger relationship with the local military commands and the defense industry; six years on the board of the USS Midway Museum, including his current role as Trustee Emeritus; and serving on the Board of Directors for theVAW-VRC Ready Room Foundation and San Diego Chapter of the Tailhook Association.

On this day, Dr. John Nachison of Mental Health Systems won the formal award but every day Terry is an award winner in our hearts!
