Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced today that its subsidiary, Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, LLC, was awarded a five-year contract for the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) HIGH STARE program. HIGH STARE is a technology development program designed to advance infrared sensor state-of-the-art for future missile warning and/or missile defense space system applications. The HIGH STARE contract, jointly sponsored by AFRL’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate in Dayton, Ohio and Space Vehicles Directorate in Albuquerque, N.M., is valued in excess of $15 million.
“The HIGH STARE program leverages Teledyne’s current capability in growth of high performance Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Mercury Cadmium Telluride (MCT) detector materials, to develop the large physical size detectors needed for the program,” said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Teledyne. “Teledyne Scientific and Imaging has demonstrated a broad background in developing focal plane arrays for space defense systems applications, as well as recent successes in manufacturing and delivery of large format Infrared focal plane arrays with greater than 4 million pixels, and visible light arrays with more than 59 million pixels.”
