Heritage Suites partners with Cambodia's Celebrity Chef Luu Meng to lead this culinary event for the benefit of Sala Bai's students in Siem Reap
PRLog - Mar. 1, 2014 - SIEM REAP, Cambodia -- Heritage Suites Hotel, Relais & Châteaux, is launching its 2nd Annual Charity Gala Dinner and Auction Event for Sala Baï Hotel & Restaurant School’s extension project on Friday, March 21st 2014 at the elegant poolside. The event features the culinary works of the country’s Top Chef Luu Meng, coming up from Phnom Penh and highlights Cambodia’s acclaimed Best World Rice campaign. Supported by Heritage’s Executive Chef Boun Vibol, the net target is USD 7,000 to contribute to the building of the new Sala Bai School.
According to Claude Colombié, the Director of Sala Baï School, ‘’In a country, where 75% of the population is still living under the poverty line or in a precarious situation and where the hospitality market desperately needs qualified workforce to support its booming growth, we want to be able to increase the number of trained students each year up to 150 while increasing sustainability to 50% of operating expenses through revenues earned locally by the school, its selected partners and alumni association by 2017. But we cannot do it in the current school as the building is too small.”
As Cambodia’s celebrated chef, Luu Meng is passionate about building and creating career paths for the younger generation. His love affair with subtle tastes, variety and his country’s herbs and spices is now legendary. His constant experimentation with flavors and textures and his desire to dig into his country’s culinary secrets will inspire the Sala Baï youths. “I am very happy to participate as the Chef to this Charity Dinner. The Sala Baï training enables young Cambodians to get out of extreme poverty and become actors of the economic development of our country. They are the future of Cambodia!”
The selected recipes will highlight the unique creations of both traditional and modern Khmer dishes made of and with “White Gold” – the best rice in the world. The event will be attended by a well-traveled group of residents, expats, entrepreneurs and hoteliers with a great interest in food, wine and a very good cause - Sala Baï. A unique and entertaining program will create an out-of-the-ordinary experience with high value and tempting auction prizes.
Heritage Suites Hotel is committed to support Sala Baï in educating underprivileged young Cambodians in the hospitality industry and share their vision of fighting human trafficking through vocational training. All proceeds of this event will directly benefit Sala Baï’s building of its new school. The price of the dinner, fine wines and service included, is $75.00 per person.

About Sala Baï
Sala Baï was created by French NGO “Agir Pour Le Cambodge” in 2002 and is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Each year the school trains - free of charge - 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians with a 70% priority to girls. After eleven years of operation, more than 1,000 Sala Baï students have been trained for careers in the hospitality industry.
