Thomas J. Herzfeld Advisors, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Erik M. Herzfeld as Head of Alternative Strategies. Erik is the 33 year old son of Thomas J. Herzfeld, the firm’s founder and chairman.
Erik has a decade of Wall Street experience in the equity and currency derivatives markets, serving in both quantitative research and trading roles with buy and sell side institutions. He has just recently joined Thomas J. Herzfeld Advisors, Inc., a private investment firm specializing in closed-end funds, to focus on building its derivatives and algorithmic trading platforms.
Erik is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University (’95) with a BA in Economics and Mathematics as well as an MBA in Financial Engineering from MIT’s Sloan School of Management (’97). He is fluent in Japanese.
After completing school, Erik served as a ‘quant’ on the Equity Derivatives Research desk at Lehman Brothers, New York where he had dual responsibilities in pricing exotic derivatives structures together with developing quantitative trading strategies for the dispersion trading group on the proprietary side. Prior to his current role, Erik spent seven years at JPMorgan Chase, based in New York, Tokyo and Singapore. At JPM, Erik ran franchises in Asia and created a proprietary trading business in New York. In Asia, he served as co-head of trading of the emerging markets currency business in Singapore and headed foreign exchange correlation trading in Tokyo. In New York he built JPM’s PPB Foreign Exchange group, part of a multi billion-dollar internal hedge fund, which focused on exotic derivatives and correlation arbitrage strategies in the currency markets.
