New Modular SSPA’s from Paradise Deliver ‘Peace-of-Mind’ Reliability

Paradise Datacom, a Teledyne Technologies company (NYSE: TDY), today announced the release of a new series of indoor, rack mount SSPA’s (solid state power amplifiers) designed to be the industry’s most reliable and highest power density amplifier systems.

This series of Paradise SSPA’s employs a Soft Fail modular design which allows the quick and easy field replacement of modules in the event of a catastrophic failure of any SSPA module.

“Our engineering team has built a number of distinguishing features into this SSPA series that enables traffic to continue to flow following the failure of any module,” said Tony Radford, VP of Sales and Marketing for Paradise Datacom. “They deliver the kind of ‘peace of mind’ reliability that satcom operators need and want to ensure peak performance for their customers.”

The modular assemblies in this series include hot-swap SSPA modules, front and rear fan trays, and a rear panel control card, and the amplifiers are powered by a separate power supply chassis. The power supply is configured as a N+1 redundant, hot-swappable power supply comprised of three modules. Since only two are required to operate the HPA, one module is redundant. If the power supply fails, the amplifier will not fail, and the module can be changed without ever taking the HPA down.

Depending on the satellite link design, the failure of a single RF module fault will result in the link either being restored to full capacity within seconds, or continuing to operate at a lower link margin until the failed module is replaced. Available in S-, C-, X- and KU-Bands, the SSPA’s have a 7RU chassis that may be fitted with a variety of power options. The chassis front panel is removable to access the SSPA modules even while the unit is in operation.

Options for the new Paradise SSPA series include Extended Frequency Band; L-Band Input operation; Reflected Power Monitor; Phase Combined Systems; Remote Control Panel; RF Input Sample Port (-10 dB); and Rear Panel Air Intake and Exhaust.
