                  SIGNET GROUP PLC CHRISTMAS TRADING STATEMENT


Signet Group plc (LSE: SIG and NYSE: SIG), the world's largest speciality retail
jeweller, will announce its Christmas Trading Statement, at 12.30 p.m. (GMT) on
Thursday 12 January 2006.

On that date there will be a conference call for all interested parties at 2.00
p.m. GMT (9.00 a.m. EST and 6.00 a.m. Pacific Time) and a simultaneous audio
webcast at www.signetgroupplc.com.

Signet operated 1,820 speciality retail jewellery stores at 31 December 2005;
these included 1,219 stores in the US, where the Group trades as "Kay Jewelers",
"Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry" and under a number of regional names. At the
same date Signet also operated 601 stores in the UK, where the Group trades as
