Vale obtains operating license for the S11D project

Rio de Janeiro, December 9, 2016 — Vale S.A. (Vale) informs that it obtained the operating license (LO) for the S11D mine and plant, issued by the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA).

The S11D mine and plant achieved physical progress of 96% as of October 30th, 2016 and the hot commissioning is progressing well. A 110 wagon train was loaded with aproximately 10,000 tons of product. S11D start-up is expected for the end of 2016 with the first commercial shipment in January 2017.

The LO for the S11D mine and plant is an important milestone to consolidate Vale’s position as the lowest C1 cash cost producer in the industry.
