The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games has led to a surge in demand for plush toys of its mascot Bing Dwen Dwen.

Mascots Chenchen, Congcong, and Lianlian of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 also saw a surge in merchandise sales recently.

Designers at the Asian Games Hangzhou Art and Design Center on the Xiangshan Campus of the China Academy of Art, who have been devoted to the creation of cultural products for the major sporting event for the past three years, were inspired by the surge in demand.

"We have completed 1,417 licensed products, including badges, toys, clothing, accessories, handicrafts, bags, and food," said Bi Xuefeng, secretary of the center.

In addition to these gadgets, the center has also taken charge of the design of ceremonial clothing and official sports clothing for the Games, which were published on Sept 10, 2021, the beginning of the one-year countdown to the event.

The exterior design of various sporting venues and the landscape design at multiple Hangzhou local landmarks were also created by the center.

"The center, which is a form of creative cooperation between the government and university, has yielded fruitful results," said Chen Weiqiang, vice-secretary of the Hangzhou Asian Games organizing committee and vice-mayor of Hangzhou.
