How a small eCommerce start up is doing its part in reducing carbon footprint

Orange, California Mar 25, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - TalkPeng.com was founded in July 2020 at the height of the pandemic by 2 like-minded individuals working in eCommerce and digital design. Its mission to provide unique, yet affordable apparel to a niche, ecologically conscious audience.

Fast forward 1 year and things have surely developed for this bootstrapped, 100% privately owned business. With a loyal customer base of several tens of thousands and an average score of 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot, the brand has now set its eyes on making a similar dent when it comes to sustainability.

The problem: Every order that gets placed online is accruing to the ever-growing carbon emissions ledger. This ranges from the production of items to most prominently of course shipping and returns that need to be offered free of charge to consumers these days.

The solution: While consumers still want to receive and return their products, TalkPeng has found another alley to reduce their C02 footprint. They pledge to invest 1% of each order value in rebuilding the Java Green Shield, an embattled mangrove ecosystem in Situbondo, Indonesia, supporting the NGO Yayasan Gajah Sumatera in their effort to preserve this magnificent ecosystem. Mangrove trees have a unique impact on the environment, they absorb a large amount of CO2 while their roots aid in reducing erosion and improving filtration of groundwater!

The key facts of this operation once concluded:

  • 21,000 mangrove trees to be planted
  • 8.45 hectares of mangroves to be planted
  • 500 kg C02 absorbed by each tee over a lifetime

If you're interested in learning more about the details of TalkPeng's sustainability efforts, you can do so here.

What's next for TalkPeng? The founders say that they want to make their unique apparel accessible to more consumers and open new markets this year.
