Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electrical Instrumental In Helping Residents Recover From Recent Winter Storm

A few weeks ago, Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee residents experienced a devastating winter storm that led to several uncomfortable situations, especially with water pipes bursting through multiple states and causing damages worth millions of dollars. This effectively cut people off from their water supply and brought them face to face with blocks of ice right in their homes.

Most people had to take drastic measures to keep themselves and their households warm. Some of these measures included wearing many layers of clothing, making a fireplace outdoors, and sleeping inside of cars to keep both children and adults warm.

The ravaging weather affected lives and properties negatively. Reports show thousands of vehicle crashes and thousands of homes reporting damage to water systems, so much that people had to use the toilet a couple of times before flushing with water they got from a swimming pool.

One of the biggest challenges that occurred during the dangerous winter storm is the event of pipes freezing below and making people’s homes overly cold. Entire plumbing systems were also disrupted. In desperation, most families had to boil snow to bathe, cook, drink, and perform other domestic activities.

The unfortunate event has given birth to the need for all Americans to have moderate knowledge of winter storm prep ideas and how to prevent frozen pipes effectively. During winter, the water inside pipes freeze, which expands the pipe and causes it to break. According to the experts at Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical, the following measures will help people to manage frozen pipes or prevent them if a winter storm occurs.

“Keeping the home heating on at an even temperature at all times is one of the best ways to prevent frozen pipes. It does not have to run at a high temperature. Running it around 50 degrees Fahrenheit should do. During winters, some rooms may be cold while others are warm.

Homeowners can prevent their pipes from freezing by placing a fan in the warm room to blow some of the heat into the cold room. If the pipes running inside of cabinets and cupboards are not getting enough warmth, open the doors of the cupboards. Pipes inside of the garage are in greater danger and exposed to the unforgiving winter cold. So, keep the garage closed at all times to retain the heat and keep the pipes warm.”

The Hiller representative finished by saying, “When the toilet is not flushing or water is not running in the kitchen during winter, these are signs of frozen pipes. The first thing to do after suspecting a frozen pipe is to cut off the water supply. If there is a complicated plumbing problem like burst pipes, call an expert plumber to fix it.”
