GateWay Second Chance Foundation, a community-based organization for underserved youth in Camp Springs, Maryland, announces its 6th Annual Prayer Breakfast to help young men start the new year with hope and courage. The national prayer breakfast for 2021 features community activist and ordained minister James Brown as its keynote speaker.

More details can be found at https://www.prayerbreakfast2021.com

The newly announced prayer breakfast serves two functions. The first is to reignite the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of young men currently struggling in their community with prayer and empowering dialogue. The second is to secure the necessary funding to help at-risk adolescent males find a safe and stable environment to learn and grow both academically and holistically.

According to the latest urban sociology research, vulnerable youth are at a higher risk of becoming a gang member before they are 20, commit a crime that may place them in jail, run away, engage in sexually promiscuous behavior, and drop out of high school. The statistics of these at-risk males become more sobering when one considers that only one in 10 youth from low-income families go to graduate from a four-year college.

The prayer breakfast for 2021 is meant to help vulnerable boys modify their behavior and become contributing members of the community. GateWay Second Chance Foundation supports at-risk youth with financial aid for college and other education-related opportunities. Particularly, the foundation seeks to prevent low-income adolescent males from becoming a statistic in the juvenile justice system.

GateWay’s prayer breakfast is available online and can be accessed through YouTube. The virtual event is free, but the foundation requests contributions to keep them operational. Details of the event can be found at http://www.gatewaysecondchance.org

“We remain committed to establishing the GateWay Boarding Academy to help young males who are in jeopardy of becoming a part of a permanent underclass, develop academic and life skills needed for successful and productive lives,” said Clarence Carter, GateWay’s founder, and chairman. “We continue our mission to provide our youth a second chance in life.”
