Project C.U.R.E. Collaborates With CSL Plasma to Encourage Plasma Donations

The #CSLPlasmaChallenge Allows Plasma Donors to Spread Awareness about the Importance of Plasma Donations and Help Local Healthcare Workers by Supporting Project C.U.R.E.

DENVER - June 10, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

Blood plasma donors – regardless of whether they have had the COVID-19 virus or not – are more needed more than ever. To address this critical need for plasma, Project C.U.R.E. and CSL Plasma Inc. have created the #CSLPlasmaChallenge. The #CSLPlasmaChallenge was designed to help others in two ways:

  • Plasma donations can be used to help make therapies that may save lives; and

  • Plasma donors can give the compensation they receive (an average of $70 for new donors up to $400 per month*) to Project C.U.R.E. in order to support its efforts to provide critical personal protection equipment (PPE) and other medical relief to healthcare workers across the country.

Plasma is the pale-yellow liquid portion of the blood, and it can be easily replaced by the body. It consists mainly of water and proteins, which help the body control bleeding and infection. Plasma is processed into a wide variety of life-saving medicines used to treat serious and rare diseases which often have few other treatment options.

“Project C.U.R.E. is thrilled to be working with CSL Plasma in this important effort. Plasma donors will have an opportunity to support the front-line healthcare workers in their fight against COVID-19. Any amount of their donor fees given to Project C.U.R.E. will make a difference to the nurses and doctors who are working hard to take care of our communities, especially during this challenging time,” said Project C.U.R.E. CEO & President Dr. Douglas Jackson.

“Plasma donations are essential for life-saving medicines and the #CSLPlasmaChallenge aims to celebrate those that continue to donate in these unprecedented times and offers all of our donors a chance to give back,” said Scott Newkirk, Divisional Director, Plasma Operations at CSL Plasma. “Project C.U.R.E. is an essential hero in fighting the COVID-19 crisis and we welcome the opportunity to work closely with the organization and support its critical work.”

Plasma donors who donate at any CSL Plasma collection center can pledge all or a portion of their donor fees, an average of $70 and up to $400 per month*, to Project C.U.R.E, an organization supporting local healthcare workers who are on the front lines fighting the coronavirus pandemic. CSL Plasma will also give $5 to Project C.U.R.E. for up to three friend nominations when the #CSLPlasmaChallenge hashtag is used on social media.

CSL Plasma collection centers follow applicable CDC recommendations and state and local guidelines to help maintain donor and staff safety and limit the spread of COVID-19. CSL Plasma has put in place many protective measures including enhanced disinfecting protocols, temperature checks prior to entry and social distancing throughout the donation process.
