Northern Trust Appoints Head of ETF Capital Markets for FlexShares

Northern Trust announced the appointment of Dan Madden as Head of ETF Capital Markets for FlexShares.

In this role, Madden will lead efforts to optimize FlexShares’ integration into the ETF capital-markets ecosystem. He will also lend his expertise in support of FlexShares’ growing base of clients. Madden will be based in Chicago and report to Peter Ewing, Head of Product Management for Northern Trust’s ETFs and Mutual Funds.

“Dan brings with him nearly two decades of front-line ETF trading and market experience, which he gained while designing and managing critical-path trade functions at several leading ETF trading desks,” said Ewing. “The depth and range of his expertise across product segments will benefit our whole ETF program as we continue to take market share. We’re thrilled to have him join the team and look forward to leveraging his expertise for the benefit of FlexShares’ clients.”

Madden has over 17 years of experience in the ETF industry. He spent his early years working for Kellogg Capital Group, where he helped develop the electronic market making unit that specialized in some of the first ETF products. In 2009, he joined the ETF trading group at Knight Capital and then, ultimately, Cantor Fitzgerald, where he built deep relationships with exchanges and designed effective portfolio management, risk and trading processes. Madden most recently worked at RBC, where he was a Director and ETF Trader, focused on international trading.

“I have known the team at FlexShares for a number of years and look forward to the opportunity to work with such an innovative team committed to serving the needs of advisors through our goal-oriented products,” said Madden. “This role will allow me to look beyond individual trades and more at the global trading picture. I’m excited to utilize my ETF trading expertise to benefit advisors who are utilizing FlexShares’ funds in their clients’ portfolios.”
