Intergenerational Recipe Swap Connects Caregivers and Care Receivers Through Story Sharing
MANHATTAN, N.Y. - May 3, 2016 - PRLog -- The CareGivers' Project, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization, will hold the 11th "My Mother's Recipe" potluck lunch on Saturday, May 14th at Exhibit C, 88 Eldridge Street, on New York City's Lower East Side from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The organization's signature bi-annual event is an intergenerational potluck lunch where caregivers of all ages and care receivers share favorite personal recipes, the actual dishes themselves and the stories behind them with other "care pairs" in their community.

"'Through My Mother's Recipe, a homemade dish and exchanging best-loved recipes from diverse cultures is a springboard to sharing personal stories and deepening intergenerational relationships," explains Dr. Jomarie Zeleznick, Founder and Executive Director, My Mother's Recipe and The CareGivers' Project. "Through this very personal and inclusive experience, both caregiver and care receiver foster an even closer connection and expand their contact with other care pairs in the community." The event provides a unique opportunity for "care pairs" to engage that is outside of the typical doctor visit, beauty parlor appointment or worship service outing.

My Mother's Recipe and The Caregivers' Project bring together elderly people of diverse cultural backgrounds who live in their own homes - as well as in independent, assisted living and nursing homes - and their caregivers. It is open to professional caregivers as well as family members and neighbors who have played a caregiving role and have stories to share. A free event open to the public, attendees are asked to bring a home-cooked dish to share for feeding 8-10 people.

Corporate sponsors for the May 2016 My Mother's Recipe event include: Nancy Burner & Associates, Gutterman's Funeral Home, ComForCare, AMR Care Group Inc., Dr. Steven Weissblatt, New York Financial Organizers, Comprehensive Geriatric Care and Murano Rehabilitation.
