PRLog - June 23, 2015 - SEATTLE -- Chef and author of Passion & Palate: Recipes for a Generous Table John Howie is the owner of some of Seattle’s best restaurants including his first (a ZAGAT favorite), Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar. The event starts at 1:00pm at the Nile Shrine Golf Course, in Mountlake Terrace with the cook-off starting at 2:30pm. Chef Howie will begin tasting for the best burger off the grill at 3:00pm, so BBQ pros are encouraged to get there no later than 2:30pm. Judging will take place from 3:00pm to 3:30pm. Zakayla Productions Foundation’s recipient for the first project, Captain John Sheppard, US Army 101st Airborne Division passed away last weekend before filming of the first show could begin, so there will be open nominations and interviews during the event for a new recipient.

"This has been something close to my heart and has kept me awake at night knowing many of our disabled Veterans and others that need help can't get it because their cases have fallen through the cracks; I was inspired to start the foundation by their stories,” says Wanna Choy, Founder and CEO of Zakayla Productions Foundation. Ms. Choy is host of Operation Eco-Renovation, a 13 episode TV show (starting with streaming online) that will focus on Veterans who are disabled and disadvantaged. The Eco-renovation will be of the interior of their homes, as well as adding whatever is needed to the exterior like ramps for easy access. What sets this local foundation apart from the rest is their commitment to the disabled in taking them through the process of the renovation and educating them on what is being done for them in their home. Every step will be recorded from the emotional to the practical application and construction process.

“Our Veterans have done so much for our freedom; I want to help in any way I can. Operation Eco-Renovation is serving Veterans in a unique way, providing a healthy home environment for those that truly need it,” says Chef John Howie. Prizes include a travel package, a signed basketball from Seattle’s Storm and more. The event goes until 6pm with a beer garden, face painting, clowns and other vendors. Burgers and other food included with ticket price for entry into the event, recipe ingredients should be brought by the cooks that go beyond basic burger ingredients.
