Since the advent of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology the world has witnessed the launch of numerous projects and integrations across various sectors of human endeavor. One of the many exciting branch offs of the crypto market is the evolution of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The total trading volume of NFTs over the last 18 months is around $14.68 billion according to data obtained from OpenSea, which handles 90% of all the NFT trading volume. Collectors and investors around the world have found that NFTs provide an exciting and unique combination of entertainment, financial opportunity, and community.
Spurred by the motivation to celebrate the exploits of Elon Musk while allowing people to participate in the NFT revolution, the King of the Universe Space Club is excited to announce the launch of its NFT collection. The Musk-inspired collection features 5,555 NFTs, each styled after the world’s richest man and the entrepreneur behind Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, the Boring Co., and a host of others. Each Elon, as the NFTs are called, is a unique digital collectible that lives on the Ethereum blockchain. From payment systems to electric cars to space travel or Musk’s recent Twitter bombshell, each Elon reflects a number of Musk's various exploits.
Speaking about the idea behind the NFT project, creator Vince Coyner had this to say, “When many people think of the King of the Universe, they think of God. We’re pretty sure our King of the Universe isn't God, but he's certainly out of this world.” He continues, “The King of the Universe Space Club is a tongue in cheek homage to Elon Musk, a guy who seems to dominate every aspect of the life he gets involved in, so why should the universe be any different? As such, we've deemed him King of the Universe.”
The NFTs feature a variety of things Musk is known for. Among them are references to Musk’s tweets about buying Coca Cola and returning cocaine to its recipe and buying McDonalds to fix all the ice cream machines. There are references to a spectrum of Musk’s adventures as a businessman, investor, and humorist. From his work on SpaceX and Tesla and PayPal to his appearances on the small and big screens to his sometimes whimsical Tweets on rather disparate subjects, collectors will enjoy an elaborate Musk focused collection of unique NFTs.
“From his appearances on the Simpsons, Iron Man, and SNL among others, to his well known usage of marijuana and his first video game - Blaster, the collection highlights many of Musk’s intersections with popular culture.” Coyner states, “We’ve got cowboy hats and Duff beer ball caps and Solar City hardhats; virtually every element is taken from something that Musk has said or done or worn, or someone has said about him. That includes his Wario costume from SNL, a space suit and two different cowboy costumes. ”
The King of the Universe Space Club has a variety of prizes for members, including a pallet of Coke, a $500 gift card for McDonalds ice cream, and two of the original paintings featured in some of the NFTs, which were painted by Coyner himself. There is also a plan for a virtual Elon Musk dunk tank that will raise money for charity and when the collection sells out, one lucky Elon holder will win a brand new Tesla.
With time, an Elon will serve as the entry key to various club activities and provide early access to offerings that may be made public later. Public minting is currently scheduled for late August or early September and addresses are currently being collected for a whitelist that will allow invitees to buy their Elons early, at a discount to the public price and without being subject to gas fee whiplash that general public buyers are sometimes exposed to.
