About the Eaton Fire Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that SCE was negligent in failing to inspect and maintain its infrastructure and manage its power transmission lines, the failure of which ultimately caused the Eaton Fire to ignite in the hills of Eaton Canyon, near Altadena, CA.

Specifically, the plaintiffs allege that SCE, despite knowing the area to be an extreme fire risk, especially with the strong Santa Ana winds occurring on January 7, 2024, deliberately prioritized profits over safety by failing to properly maintain its electrical equipment and surrounding vegetation and by failing to shut off power to the electrical equipment in Eaton Fire despite numerous reports of high-speed winds. This recklessness and conscious disregard for human safety was a substantial factor in bringing about the Eaton Fire.

Fire attorney Amanda Riddle said, "The devastation is terrible, and it didn't have to be this way. SCE prioritized profits over the safety of thousands of Los Angeles residents, and we intend to hold them accountable."

"Our team is committed to fighting for the best outcome for each of our clients,” said fire attorney Steve Lopez. “We have successfully taken on powerful utility companies in wildfire cases and are committed to using our unique knowledge and experience to hold SCE accountable and meaningfully help Eaton Fire survivors.”

We Hold Utility Companies Accountable

Our award-winning litigators have secured $1.5 billion in compensation for over 6,300 victims and survivors of the largest utility-caused fires and disasters in California, including the 2018 Camp Fire, the 2017 Thomas Fire, the 2017 North Bay Fires, the 2015 Butte Fire, the 2015 Aliso Canyon gas leak, and the 2010 San Bruno gas pipeline explosion.

Judges throughout California have appointed our lawyers to lead the legal battles against utility companies in multiple counties. Amanda Riddle was part of the team that negotiated a global $13.5 billion settlement with NorCal utility PG&E on behalf of 70,000 fire survivors and currently serves on the nine-member oversight committee for the PG&E Fire Victim Trust, which manages the distribution of the fund. She also serves in a judge-appointed leadership role, Co-Liaison Counsel, in state court litigation for the 2015 Butte Fire.

Judges trust us to represent the best interests of fire and disaster victims.

Did SCE Negligence Cause the Eaton Fires?

Many have already seen the videos online and in the news: a fire burning at the base of an SCE transmission tower in Eaton Canyon. SCE also failed to shut off power in dangerous conditions, including warnings from the National Weather Service of extreme fire risk, and was recently criticized by regulators for failing to promptly repair equipment.

We are leveraging our expertise to hold SCE accountable. Our lawyers have already been communicating with SCE to demand they preserve all evidence related to this devastating incident.
