Since people spend most of their time in indoor environments, indoor air quality has a direct impact on an individual's health and well-being.

Indoor air quality monitors are important for safeguarding public health and improving the quality of life. Since people spend most of their time in indoor environments, indoor air quality directly affects the health and well-being of individuals. This article focuses on the hazards of indoor air pollution, the importance of indoor air quality monitors, and a detailed analysis of the application areas.

Hazards of Indoor Air Pollution

Indoor pollutants are mainly divided into five types: formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, TVOCs, and radon, of which formaldehyde ranks second on China's priority list of toxic chemicals for control, and has been identified by the World Health Organization as a carcinogenic and teratogenic substance.

Formaldehyde mainly comes from indoor building materials and homes, such as plywood, particle board, foam filler, wood flooring, wallpaper, paints, and coatings.

Indoor benzene pollution mainly comes from indoor decoration with paints, wood paints, adhesives, and a variety of organic solvents, the main component is benzene, including the toxicity of pure benzene and toluene, but also includes a slightly weaker toxicity of xylene.

Indoor sources of ammonia are: building construction, concrete added to contain urea antifreeze, which can release ammonia; indoor use of sheet metal products, some contain urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive, at room temperature conditions, the slow release of ammonia; originating from biological waste, such as feces, urine, human exhalation and perspiration, the release of ammonia.

TVOC is total volatile organic compounds and is a more serious kind of indoor air quality pollution, TVOC harm is very prominent, not only causes the body's immune level disorder, but affects the function of the central nervous system, causing dizziness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, chest tightness, and other symptoms; and affect the digestive system, loss of appetite, nausea, etc., and in serious cases, can damage the liver and hematopoietic system.

The sources of radon are natural radionuclides in the soil and rocks of building foundations, precipitation from building materials, indoor living water, and gas (coal, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas).

The importance of indoor air quality monitor

About 80% of a person's life is spent indoors, especially the old, weak, sick, disabled, young, pregnant, and other frail people in indoor activities for a longer period of time, the quality of the indoor environment is good or bad degree of their physical and mental health is more important. Therefore, the use of indoor air quality monitors to strengthen the monitoring and management of the indoor environment is very important to ensure people's health.

Indoor air quality monitor application areas

1. Residential:

In family homes, monitoring air quality can help family members avoid long-term exposure to pollutants, especially for people with respiratory diseases or allergies.

2. Offices and commercial buildings:

Monitoring air quality in commercial buildings such as offices, shopping malls, and hotels is essential to ensure the health of employees and customers.

3. Educational institutions:

Educational institutions such as schools and kindergartens should regularly monitor air quality to ensure the healthy development of children and adolescents.

4. Medical facilities:

Medical facilities such as hospitals and clinics require special attention to air quality to prevent the spread of infections and protect the health of patients and medical staff.

5. Industrial environments:

In manufacturing plants and industrial facilities, monitoring air quality is essential to prevent occupational diseases and protect workers from harmful substances.

6. Transportation:

Air quality in airplanes, trains, and public transportation also needs to be monitored to ensure the comfort and health of passengers.
