Smart announces organizational changes

MANILA / Nov. 18 - Smart Communications Inc (“Smart”) – the wholly owned wireless subsidiary of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (“PLDT”) – today announces that a senior officer and senior adviser have stated their decision to resign from the company for personal reasons: Mr. Peter J. Lawrence – Chief Financial Adviser, who will retire by June 2006, and Mr. Anastacio R. Martirez, Head of Personal Communications and Mobile Services Division, who will retire by December 2005.

 

There are no further resignations at the senior management level of Smart.

Ms. Anabelle L. Chua, Senior Vice President and Treasurer of PLDT, has been designated as Smart’s Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Chua will continue to serve as Treasurer of PLDT, and her dual role will enhance the coordination of the finance and treasury functions of PLDT and Smart.

Mr. Menardo G. Jimenez Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of Retail Business Group (“RBG”) of PLDT, has been designated Officer-In-Charge of Smart Marketing and Sales Group, including Customer Care. Mr. Jimenez will continue to be Head of PLDT’s RBG.

Mr. Napoleon L. Nazareno, President of PLDT and Smart, said that “Boy Martirez and Peter Lawrence have done an exemplary job at Smart, and have been a significant part of its tremendous success. All of us are hugely indebted to their respective contributions and it is only appropriate for us to acknowledge publicly our deep gratitude for their years of invaluable service.” - end
