Talking Points

Since being named Group President of Covidien’s business segments, Bryan Hanson has been working with a cross-functional team to determine the best way to organize the new Covidien Group.

As you saw earlier today, Bryan announced two key leadership decisions that will enable us to advance our growth, improve the operational efficiency of the business and position us well for the future.

Steve Blazejewski will become Senior Vice President and President of Medical Supplies, Respiratory & Monitoring Solutions and Venous Solutions, based in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Chris Barry will become Senior Vice President and President of the Surgical businesses, both Advanced Surgical Technologies (AST) and General Surgical Products (GSP). He will be based in Boulder, Colorado.

These positions will become effective upon close of the transaction.

In these new positions, Steve and Chris will be responsible for global strategy and portfolio management. They will also direct the U.S. commercial organizations.

Steve and Chris have strong track records for building successful businesses and leading winning teams.

¡    Steve has been with the company for nearly 20 years, holding a number of sales, marketing and management positions, including his current role as President of GSP.

¡    Chris has been with the company for nearly 16 years and has also held various sales and marketing leadership positions, currently serving as President of AST.

Steve and Chris will continue to report to Bryan. By announcing their appointments now, they can immediately begin working with the current leaders on transition plans, including the structure and leadership teams for the new organizations. They will share future plans for their organizations in the coming weeks.

Bryan plans to announce the rest of his Covidien Group leadership team, including Early Technologies, Functions and Regions, in conjunction with the Medtronic leadership announcements in mid-November.

There’s no question that everyone at Covidien is experiencing a lot of change right now. We will continue to communicate additional information about our businesses and organization as we move through the transition process.

With that said, we will need to be comfortable with ambiguity as we transition to our new organizations.

Please be patient with the process and remain focused on our customers, patients and business. It’s essential that we deliver on all of our commitments in the first quarter and full year FY15.

    Thank you for your time.
